Matt Woods
Matt Woods
Matt Woods is an outlaw country and southern roots songwriter from Knoxville, Tennessee who spends a hell of a lot of time on the road, playing his songs for anyone who cares to listen. "Some folks call what I do Americana, but I have a hard time putting a label on things like that. A lot of my songs are very much based in classic country music while others are grounded in straight forward and greasy rock'n'roll," Woods explains. "I write what is ready to come out and try to be as honest as I can about it."

Along the way, Matt has shared the stage with the likes of Chris Knight, Black Oak Arkansas, Roger Alan Wade, Zac Brown, Drivin' n' Cryin', Will Hoge, Roger Clyne (of The Refreshments), CAKE, Mic Harrison (of the V-Roys and Superdrag), and many others, not to mention a seemingly never-ending list of talented independent artists who aren't getting the widespread respect they deserve from points around the globe.

Press:

"It's only a matter of time before singer-songwriter Matt Woods finds wider recognition."
-Performing Songwriter

"[Matt Woods] started singing with more power and more emotion than, get ready for this, more emotion and strength than anyone I remember seeing maybe ever. I was floored…I LOVE THIS SONG."
-Riki Rachtman (Headbangers Ball, NASCAR Radio, Fork In The Road) **On Deadman's Blues

"Matt Woods [has been] putting out great self-penned, independent country and roots albums that draw a line in the proverbial sand. Every song just suggests 'See, this is what country music is.'"
-TwangNation.com

"The Matt Woods Manifesto is one of the best new records I've heard this year."
-AmericanaRoots.com

"Passionate, no-nonsense, hard-rocking country goodness!"
-Americana-UK.com

"Manifesto is Wood's masterpiece and a strong indication that this talented singer/songwriter has the smarts and savvy to achieve all his ambitions and even more."
-No Depression

"It's a brawler of a record, akin to that good-natured drunk in every Southern roadhouse who's boisterous and bawdy but quick to smash a bottle over an opponent's head if provoked."
-The Daily Times (Maryville, TN)

"(Matt Woods is) capable of clever metaphor, of penning just the right wry observation to ensure that his deeply personal lyrics engage, coming off as universal rather than as maudlin or self-absorbed."
-Metro Pulse (Knoxville, TN)
